Mégane Trophy

Along with the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 championship, the Mégane Trophy first appeared in 2005 as part of the World Series by Renault. This powerful prototype, driven by its 330bhp V6 engine, makes the most of ground effect aerodynamics to ensure it stays firmly on track.

The primary objective when designing the Megane Trophy was to offer the best price/performance ratio on the competition touring car market. Thus in order to offer a very high level of performance whilst limiting development and operating costs, the choice of a platform was to be found in the FIA prototype regulations.

Renault Sport is able to draw on a long tradition of organizing international touring car formulas at the highest level that has seen the R5 Turbo,Alpine A310, Spider and Clio V6 in action on the track over the last twenty years. Mégane Trophy now sets a very high standard in the field, as this genuine sports prototype pushes the limits of what a single-brand formula can offer its drivers.

However impressive the technical specifications of the Mégane Trophy may be, this does not make the car any less accessible for teams and drivers, either from a technical or financial perspective. Sporting fairness has always been at the heart of Renault Sport's approach: many components are sealed and so cannot be specially prepared.

Mégane Trophy is designed to be fun to drive: its sophisticated aerodynamics keep it firmly pinned to the ground allowing it to corner at very high speeds. The semiautomatic, dual paddle control gearbox similar to that used in F1 means the driver need never take his hands off the wheel!

The 2005 and 2006 seasons more than lived up to expectations with every race contested from start to finish. Whether from single-seater racing, touring car specialists or gentlemen drivers, every driver in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy helped create a superb on track spectacle. And the fans clearly want more!
